Happy New Moon in Capricorn,
My Star Sisters & Brothers!

This New Moon cycle, including the Sun-Moon conjunction to Pluto, is forming an exact 90 degree square aspect to the North & South Nodes of the Moon: what a powerful alignment to kick us off for the Great Year of 2024! Through the Evolutionary lens of Astrology, this square aspect to the Moon’s nodes represents a “skipped step” that we need to fully embrace & integrate, in order to move forward on our evolutionary path. Let’s explore the archetype of Capricorn in more depth, to shed some light on this aspect, as I feel Capricorn tends to get a “bad reputation,” when spoken of in pop astrology.

Capricorn, the Sea-Goat, is stereotypically cast as cold, stiff, strict, overly ambitious, etc. (ruled by Saturn, so we can see why people view Capricorn this way, too). However, Capricorn is actually considered a Yin sign, and, when you consider it’s symbol of the Sea-Goat, incorporates it’s polarity of the sign Cancer along with it. Cancer is said to be the Divine Mother and Capricorn the Divine Father, and can also be seen as the perfect synthesis of Yin-Yang energy within. Capricorn, more so than any of the other signs in the zodiac, is constantly referring to its past, to the terrain it has trekked, in order to revisit what needs to be considered, in order to move forward in life. In this way, we, too, as a collective humanity here on planet Earth, need to fully revisit our pasts, in order to integrate the parts of ourselves that perhaps were left behind or forgotten. The more frequently we practice this reflection process (and what a blessing to have Capricorn ruling the depths of Winter for us here in the Northern Hemisphere!), the more we can find peace within, as we embrace our past, in order to step into the present (and, thus, our future) more fully & wholly ourselves. Mars has also recently shifted into the sign of Capricorn about five days ago, and is giving us the extra drive we need to not only set our goals, but accomplish them.

Venus at 15 degrees Sagittarius and Chiron at 15 degrees Aries are forming an exact trine aspect, as well, providing us with a beautiful opportunity during this New Moon cycle to heal our relationship to ourselves, so that we can be in healthy relationships with others. Venus is also a few degrees away from the Ascendant, setting the stage for these next couple of weeks as a time period of beauty, truth and LOVE. May you embrace the Truth Within, and welcome the Love that is being sent your way by the Universe!

I always like to end with the Sabian Symbol for the Moon’s degree, which lands at 20 degrees 44 minutes of Capricorn (we always round up with the Sabian Symbols, so this one will be at 21 degrees), as described in Dane Rudhyar’s book, An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and its 360 Symbolic Phases (pg. 242):

PHASE 291 (CAPRICORN 21): A RELAY RACE.

KEYNOTE: The value of competition in developing group consciousness.

Here we are no longer dealing with competition between individuals, but with competition between groups of individuals who take turns successively in order to maximize the group effort and the possibility of outstanding results. The whole of civilization is a vast kind of relay race in which groups of people and generations carry the torch of what we call “progress.” Major achievements result from the sum total of human strivings.

This first symbol of the fifty-ninth sequence stresses one especially dynamic aspect of “group performance.” Wherever this symbol appears, it emphasizes the value of group cooperation and of necessary give-and-take. One must seek to relate and adjust one’s strength to the challenge presented by competitors in DYNAMIC INTERCHANGE.
